Angling City

Located on top of the Angling Mountain overlooking the Jialing River, the city is surrounded by water on three sides, making it a military stronghold. The advantageous location saved the city from falling under the rule of Mongka, known as "whip of the God" and conqueror of most of Asia and part of Europe. In 1259, Mongka, in his failed attempt to seize Angling city with an army of 10,000 soldiers, was wounded by the then Sichuan governor, Yu Jian and died soon after the battle.
