Turpan Museum is the second biggest museums in Xinjiang Province and it shows relics from the ancient Silk Road such as mummies from the Astana Graves, silks from the early period of transcontinental trade and funerary objects. Its main building is a two-storied modern building full of local color in simple and ancient design. The whole exposition area is divided into three parts, the Turpan historical relic exposition room, the Turpan ancient corpse exposition room and the big rhinoceros fossil exposition room. The big rhinoceros fossil is a treasure of the Turpan Museum. It is verified that it is the most integrated rhinoceros framework fossil in the world. The big rhinoceros fossil exposition room was finished in 1997. Its main exhibit is the big rhinoceros fossil (or called the “Tianshan big rhinoceros”) earthed in Feiyue railway station of Shanshan county in 1993. The big rhinoceros, called “the biggest mammal on the land”, had lived in the period between the Oligocene Epoch and the Early Miocene 33, 000,000 to 20,000,000 years ago…
