Hangzhou Citizens Swarm Temple on New Year's Eve

2007-02-19

Thousands of local citizens and tourists burned incense at Lingyin Temple, or Temple of Hidden Souls, in eastern China's Hangzhou on Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve on February 17, 2007.
The temple has always been a tourist attraction for locals and tourists, who come to worship and pray for blessings for the new year on Chinese New Year's Eve and Day. Five thousand entry tickets sold out quickly this year. The worship approached its climax at midnight, when the temple bell rang 108 times to proclaim the arrival of the new year.
