2006-10-10

United filed an application with the DOT August 17, 2006 seeking approval for its proposal to offer daily flights between its Washington (Dulles) hub and Beijing. The DOT can award up to seven weekly flights – or one daily to Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou beginning March 25, 2007 to US carriers already serving the States – China market, under terms of the new US-China aviation agreement. “The proposed capital-to-capital service will support better economic and political relations between China and the United States,” UAL Corp. said. “If approved, the service will begin in March 2007.” Washington, D.C. area is the largest China travel market in the United States without any nonstop services to China. Fully a quarter of United’s entire passenger capacity serves the Asia-Pacific and 40 percent of its cargo business comes from the region. United today has four daily nonstop between China and America.
