Henan Province Museum

One of the major 3 national museums of China, as famous as Shaan'xi History Museum and Shanghai Museum. The Henan Museum is one of China's oldest museums. It is a 'key' museum, with modern displays and exhibitions, modernized equipment, and a unique architecture. Located on Middle Nongye Road in Zhengzhou urban districts, it covers an area of over 100,000 square meters, and has a built area of 78,000 square meters and an exhibition floor area of 40,000 square meters. The exhibition hall space is more than 10,000 square meters. The building uses a combination of both traditional architecture and new technology.

Henan Museum now exhibits 130,000 precious cultural relics carefully selected from 1.3 million pieces stored in the museums of the whole province. All such treasures are displayed in the 8 halls respectively, ancient stone carvings, ancient jade carvings, fine crafts of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, ancient architecture in Henan, bronze ware art of Kingdom Chu, the world of dinosaurs, etc.

At present the museum has a collection of more than 130,000 pieces of cultural relics treasures, of which more than 5,000 pieces are treasures of the first and second grades. Among them, the prehistoric cultural relics, bronze vessels of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and pottery and porcelain wares of the various dynasties in Chinese history possess most distinguishing features. Inside the museum, there are basic exhibition halls, specialized exhibition halls and provisional exhibition halls. For the first batch of exhibitions, two basic displays and six specialized displays are offered. They are rich in contents, presenting a spectacular sight to visitors. A good number of exhibits have been successively displayed in more than 20 countries and regions in the continents of Europe, America, Asia and Oceania, winning great admiration. Besides, everyday 2 ancient music shows are scheduled for the visitors in order to demonstrate the developed ancient musical civilization in central China.

Modern technological means have been adopted, such as audio tour, magnified video-tape playing, computer consultation and visitor's interactive facilities, so as to meet the needs of visitors for knowledge and appreciation of cultural relics and for entertainment.
