Shenyang City, Shenyang Travel GuideAs the capital of Liaoning Province, Shenyang is located in the southern part of Northeast China. It is the center of politics, economy and culture in northeast of China. In addition Shenyang is an important industrial city thanks to the rich deposits of coal, iron ore and nonferrous ore that is found throughout Liaoning Province. Shenyang is becoming one of the top tourist cities of China, attracting thousands of tourists both from home and abroad.

Geographic Features

Shenyang has a total area of 13,008 square kilometers, with an urban area of 3,495 square kilometers. Most of the Shenyang region rests on a flat plain. Mountains and highlands are mostly concentrated in the southeastern part. The western part of Shenyang is the alluvial plain of the Liao and Hun Rivers. The Liao River, Hun River, North Sha River, Xinkai River and South Canal are located within the city. Shenyang enjoys a temperate semi-humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. The tourist season stretches from April to October. The average annual temperature is 8.1 C. The city receives an average annual rainfall of 721.9 millimeters.

People

Shenyang has a population of 6.5 million. The main inhabitants are Han nationality that takes 92 percent of total population. There are 32 minority nationalities, among which the main ones include the Manchurians, Korean and Muslims. The main religion here is Buddhism and Taoism. The natives speak Shenyang dialect, but the government language is still mandarin.

History

Shenyang is an ancient city with a long history. Back more than 7,200 years, humans lived and multiplied on this beautiful land. In 1625, Nurhach, the Tai Zu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, transferred its capital from Liaoyang to Shenyang, and in 1634, Huang Tai Ji, Tai Zong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty renamed Shenyang as Shengjing, and it became the capital of the Qing Dynasty. In 1644, after the capital was moved to Beijing, Shenyang became a provincial capital. After Qing united China in 1657, the Fengtian Government was set up in Shenyang. In 1945, the city once again became known as Shenyang.
