Reputed as one of the three most famous Buddhist grottoes in China, it is a treasure trove of Buddhist carvings unrivaled in the world with a variety of more than 51,000 statues. The unique mix of culture and artistic styles, especially a fusion of Buddhist art from India, architectural style from Greece and decoration motifs from Persia with Chinese culture set them apart from other grottoes in China. Continue the visit to the Nine Dragon Screen that probably is the largest of its kind in China. Then enjoy a visit to the Huayan Monastery which is considered to be one of the two biggest Buddhist halls existent in China. Built by nomadic Khitan people around 1200 years, it showcases unique artistic and architectural style. Sculptures with cursive figures, elaborate decorations, elegant and grace facial expressions, demonstrate innate characters combining deity and secularity.
