Dian Lake

Kunming Dian LakeDian Lake (Dianchi), 370 square kilometers in area, 44 meters deep, and 1,885 meters in elevation, is the eighth largest lake in China and the largest in Yunnan Province. It is also the sixth largest freshwater lake in China, also known as Kunming Lake or Kunming Pond, was formed by the subsidence of a fault zone. It is a highland lake, much treasured both in the light of Kunming's perennial spring weather and the splendid scenic beauty of the Lake District. Surrounded by hills and crisscrossed by streams, the lake basin is spread with thousands of acres of fertile fields reaching as far as the eye can see. The lake and the area around the lake are regarded as the center of Kunming's attractions. The Dianchi Lake, Because of its exceptional charms the lake is nicknamed "Sparkling Pearl Imbedded in a Highland ". Its shores are dotted with scenes of rich scenic beauty and areas of historical significance. Around the lake are a fair number of interesting tourist attractions, such as several smaller parks, resorts and the Yunnan Nationalities Village. There are many leisure boats available for touring the lake. Sailing on the lake proves a most enchanting experience with the boat swaying gently on a vast surface of liquid silver. At night, the moon casts a hazy glow over the lake, and the silence of the scene is broken only by the gentle sigh of a refreshing breeze. At the same time, the lake is a pleasant destination for those wishing to get away from the bustle of the city itself.
