Urumqi Transportation

By Air

Xinjiang Airlines has flights twice daily between Urumqi and Beijing, and links all major cities in Xinjiang via Urumqi. It also flies to Central Asian capitals, Southern Asian countries, the United Arab Emirates, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Bishkek, Alma Ata, Tashkent, Istanbul, Novosibirsk, Islamabad and Hong Kong. There are also daily flights between Kashgar and Urumqi. The Diwopu Airport is located 18 km northwest of Urumqi. The airport shuttle bus fare is 15 RMB to the city, while a taxi costs approximately 50 RMB.

By Train

Xinjiang has a convenient railway system that reaches most major cities in China. Urumqi's railway station is located in the center of the city.

By Bus

The bus between Urumqi and Kashgar goes via Aksu, Kuqa, Korla and Toksun. The trip takes about 36 hours. Some people also hire jeeps and drivers. There are also buses from Kashgar to Tashkurgan, which is the last town along the Karakoram Highway that heads to Pakistan.
