Yan'an Attractions

Cool HillCool Hill

During the War of Resistance, the Xinhua News Agency, the Xinhua Broadcasting Station, and Jiefang Ribao (Liberation Daily) all had their offices here. There is a stone cave on this hill called Ten-Thousand Buddha Cave (Wanfodong) which was carved out during the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties. It contains more than ten thousand Buddhist sculptures. The Moon Well (Yue'erjing), the Piba Bridge, and many other scenic spots with fancy names on the hill are all connected with beautiful legends.

Huangdi Mausoleum Scenic Spot

Huangdi Mausoleum Scenic SpotThe Huangdi Mausoleum is located in Huangling County, 150 kilometers northwest of Xian. Forest-liked evergreens and ancient cypress trees covered the hill. At the foot of the hill, there was the Xuanyuan Temple. The temple was first built during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220). It was restored many times by following dynasties. Huangdi also known as Xuanyuan, was a famous tribal chief in the area of middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River in remote antiquity, also, was regarded as the ancestor of the Chinese by later generations. He invented the boats, vehicles, bows and arrows which made the great improvement of people’s lifestyle. He also created characters with the great assist of his officials, which was the great achievement for history’s recording and for human’s civilization. Huangdi was also remembered for unifying the Chinese people for the first time.

Hukou Waterfalls

Hukou WaterfallsHukou Waterfall, one of the most famous and grand waterfall in china, boosts good fame of either long history or achievements of human civilization in antiquity. It’s located at the boundary of Yan’an and Yi Chuan County in Shaanxi.

Hukou Waterfall is also the second largest in China along the Yellow River. Many visitors are attracted by its tremendous and roaring falls. Sometimes you could enjoy the mysterious water screen and rainbow after the rain. Hukou is a narrow path, where the water gathered and flushes down ramblingly and roaring.

Yanan Pagoda Hill

Yanan Pagoda HillPagoda Hill is located by the Yanhe River, east of Yan'an, 1,076.3 meters above sea level. The hill is re-named after the pagoda was built. The pavilion-style pagoda, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 44 meters high with nine stories. You can get to the top but the brick pagoda is quite a climb. Nearby can be seen a large cast-iron 17th C bell which was cast in the Ming dynasty. Standing on top of the majestic pagoda, you can have a whole view of Yan'an City. The pagoda is the symbol of Yan'an as a sacred place in the Chinese revolution

Yangjialing Village

Yan’an, the cradle of Chinese revolution, situated on the Loess Plateau in north of Shaanxi Province. Yan'an is a sacred revolutionary place in China for its splendid history. In 1935, the Red Army arrived at Yan’an after the most famous Long March. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman Mao made the office here and direct Chinese revolution here for almost 13 years, and won the great victories of the anti-Japanese war and liberation war.
